Cat Muscles - gastrocnemius ("calf muscle")

This is a posterior view of the cat's hindleg in which the probe is pointing to the gastrocnemius muscle or "stomach of the leg" (aka "calf muscle", although in anatomical terms the calf muscle is made up of 3 muscles: gastrocnemius, plantaris, and the soleus muscle). The gastrocnemius is the largest muscle on the "shank" (i.e. the area between the knee and the ankle on a human, which corresponds to the cat's thigh region). The gastrocnemius is immediately inferior to the hamstring group (biceps femoris needed to be only slightly retracted to reveal the upper part of gastrocnemius).
